Ironsworn Session 2: Abandoned Village

Valryc is currently at 3 momentum, 5 health, 5 spirit, and 4 supply. He sits at 2 progress in his journey to the Elven ruins.

Valryc charges into battle with the two Shadiri. He abandons caution as his anger fills him. Either he will leave or they will, there is no alternative.

Enter the Fray: Dangerous Foes: +Wits; Valryc has sufficiently surprised the two Shadiri and they are caught off guard.
Strong hit: Action Die 8; Challenge Die 5/4
+2 Momentum; Valryc has the initiative

Valryc draws his bastard sword and charges at the two guards as they sit distracted in conversation. He lets loose a valiant battle cry “FOR WRENNSFAAAAALLLL!” as he runs towards them. They are so distracted that he easily takes advantage of the situation. He swings his sword down on the closest Shadiri before they can draw their weapon.

Valryc deals 2 harm to the Shadiri but loses initiative (Progress: 4)

His sudden charge takes the first guard by surprise, but in his haste he did not think that the guards would maintain their wits. The guard unharmed by his blade moves back and draws a bow. They quickly knock an arrow and draw down on him! Seeing that the archer might steal the advantage from him, Valryc closes the distance with the archer before he is able to release his arrow and stabs out at him with the bastard sword

Valryc loses the initiative and pays the price

Valryc tries to close the distance with the archer, but the other Shadiri slashes at his back with the short curved blade that they have drawn. The blade catches his calf and he stumbles as he attempts to stab the archer through the heart

Pay the Price: Valryc takes the slash to the leg:  -2 Health
Endures Harm: +Iron
Weak hit: Action Die 7; Challenge Die 6/7

Valryc stumbles but catches his footing as his momentum carries him towards the archer. Hoping to turn the fight in his favor, he makes a desperate slash at the Shadiri archer in front of him.

Clash: Valryc carries on and attempts to strike down the archer before he can retreat +Iron
Strong Hit: Action Die 6; Challenge Die 3/5
Valryc finds an opening in the Archers defense +1 Harm for a total of 3 harm (Progress: 10) Valryc has the initiative

Valryc runs the archer through with his bastard sword and turns on the other Shadiri. He sees that after slashing at his calf, the Shadiri has lost his footing and is stumbling to catch himself. With the Archer dealt with and the other stumbling, Valryc seizes his opportunity and brings his bastard sword down on the Shadiri guard, hoping to finish the fight.

End the Fight: Valryc will end the two Shadiri here!

Valryc brings his blade down and ends the Shadiri guard as he stumbles to catch his footing. With the battle won, the adrenaline subsides and Valryc thinks clearly for the first time since he saw the guards “Shadows, what have I done! They’ll know for certain that there are Ironlanders out here once they find these guards missing or dead. I’ve given up all of my chance of surprise!”  He curses his foolishness at giving up his advantage of surprise. He finally feels the blood running down his calf and sees the gash that caused him to slip in his initial attack on the archer. He curses once again under his breath, pulling off his pack and retrieving bandages to tie off the wound. “I must do this quickly and be gone from this place. I’ve had my vengeance, but the Shadiri will surely be back soon. I must leave this place with haste before I am found out.”

He quickly calms himself, knowing there is nothing to be done now except bind his wound and flee the village. He retrieves his medical supplies and attempts to apply a poultice on his wound to staunch the bleeding so that the Shadiri won’t be able to track him by blood trail

Heal: Valryc binds his wound before making his way out of the village +Wits
Strong hit: Action Die 7; Challenge Die 5/6  

Valryc is successful in binding the wound and the bleeding stops. It may add to his scars but it won’t slow down his progress. +2 health

Seeing that the bleeding has stopped and that the cut wasn’t as deep as he initially thought, he hefts his pack and tests his wounded leg. “Almost as good as new” he thinks to himself, testing his weight on the leg. He quickly searches the bodies of the fallen Shadiri, hoping to find some small amounts of food to resupply his stores before quickly making his way from the village. He will give the dead their time once he has found a safe place to camp

Resupply: Valryc searches the bodies quickly to resupply before leaving the village +Wits
Weak hit: Action Die 3; Challenge Die 2/5

Valryc hastily searches the packs, but knows he is wasting precious time to make distance between these dead Shadiri and their troop. He finds some supplies and hastily shoves them in his bag before running out of the village to the north. +1 Supply -1 Momentum

Undertake a Journey: Valryc hurries on towards the Elven ruins, forsaking the chance of resting at the village +Wits
Strong hit: Action Die 8; Challenge Die 2/2 Match!
Reach a way point. Mark Progress. Choose to gain +1 momentum and take -1 Supply



Match and Waypoint will be resolved next time in Session 3!
