Valryc smiles with satisfaction as he looks down into the valley
below and sees the path leading deeper into the forest below. The
first part of his journey is nearing its end. He knows that this means
the Shadiri are likely close and he needs all the luck he can muster
for his success. He takes a moment and looks out to the horizon
towards Wrennsfall, hoping to spot Strieg returning to him.
“My friend, you must be close. Your wings carry you swifter than my
feet ever could.”
He urges the hawk on in his mind, hoping that his eyes will catch the
sight of Strieg in the distance returning to him.
Ask the Oracle: Is Strieg closing in on the mountain
range and within eyeshot of Valryc?
Likely: 26 or greater-96; Yes!
Likely: 26 or greater-96; Yes!
Valryc squints as he holds his hand up to cover his eyes against the sun. He scans the distance, looking in the direction of the city. He worries the hawk will not find him in these mountains, but as he stands out against the peak he knows this will be the only opportunity he has to spot him before he ventures down into the forest below. The man almost shouts in joy as he sees the hawk in the sky approaching him. He waves his arm and sees the hawk change course to come directly for him. The hawk lands on Valryc’s gloved hand and the man runs his other hand down the Hawk’s back “Ah Strieg, I knew you would find me! This is just the turn I needed.” He smiles, then examines Strieg’s foot and finds a small case tied with a leather cord around the hawk’s foot just as he expected. “Now let us see what news we have from Wrennsfall.” The bird flits from his arm and settles in the branches of a nearby tree as Valryc moves to open the case and unfurl the message. What news does Strieg bring from the council of Wrennsfall?
Oracle: Action & Theme- 62/59; Overwhelm Rumors
Rumors have circulated to Wrennsfall from the villages to its north. Shadiri scouts have been reportedly spotted moving among the lands.

“Valryc, it is heavy news that you pass along to us. Your valor is recognized as you continue on in this mission alone. It is imperative that you continue to the ruins and find what the Shadiri seek, or at the very least discover any information that could help us understand their purposes. Move carefully but with all urgency. Reports have come from several northern villages of Shadiri scouting parties. They move within the bounds of our land. Something is coming. I can only hope we are ready. Much hangs on your success…”
-Councilor Amara
Valryc rolls the small message up and places it back in the small leather holder that he had retrieved from Streigs leg. “This is not good… I doubt that I’ve made it here in time now if there are Shadiri being sighted in the northern villages. I’ll have to press on quickly and return to Wrennsfall with haste.” He shoulders his pack and turns back towards the descent into the valley “One more valley and then we’re there. I’m sure of it. Strieg, circle overhead!” He points up and makes a circling motion with his finger. The hawk recognizes the command and begins making circles over the forest, ready to alert Valryc of any possible danger. He begins making his way, hoping that he is not too late.
Reach your Destination: Valryc makes the final push
down into the valley following the trail to his destination.
Weak hit: Progress 8; Challenge die 6/10
He reaches the ruins but faces an unexpected hazard/complication

Finally arriving on the other side of the chasm, Valryc looks to the sky. The sun is setting quickly and he has not made it to his final destination. He prepares a torch, knowing that the fire will give him away if anyone lies in wait ahead, but also knowing that the darkness will be a much worse thing to deal with. He presses forward. After another few hours of travel, he finally sees the end of the road. A small structure stands deep within the forest. Though he faced frustration at the delay, a weight seems to lift off the man as he stares towards the structure. He searches the surrounding area and comes to the conclusion that no one is here waiting for him. He sets his pack down at the base of a tree near the entrance to the structure. “Well, I suppose this is a start. I’ll have to camp and search the ruin in the morning. I’ve pushed myself about as far as I can go for the day.” He whistles for Strieg, pulling out some rations for the evening before eating and setting up a small lean to against the side of the structure. He lays down to rest, hoping that tomorrow will give him the answers that the people of Wrennsfall need.
Reach a Milestone: Valryc has reached his destination
of the Elven ruins, though it appears someone has made it here
before him. Even as the pressure mounts, he has completed a leg of
the journey . +1 progress on his vow.
