Level 1 Skeleton: Session 2- The Chaos Sorcerer
Frost-Taker the Chaos Sorcerer
After running down the road for some time, Rufus finally stops, a quizzical look passing over his... eye sockets. Wait! I should probably see where I'm going!" He quickly pulls out the first poster with the overlords details. "Ah! I see! Frost-taker the Chaos Sorcerer. Seems like a push over. And he's located in... The Fortress of Extreme Frustration huh? Well I'm sure this Frost-Taker guy will gladly leave a place like that! Sounds simply awful!" Now feeling a bit more guided, Rufus heads towards the Fortress of Extreme Frustration, which he oddly remembers where its located since he was so familiar with this area in life! Coming to the fortress, Rufus charges in, longsword in hand ready for battle "I'm here with eviction papers! Lets see you out peacefully... Or NOT!"
Fortress of Extreme Frustration: Challenge 1
Challenge 1: A squad of stone soldiers have spotted Rufus and
move to intercept him!
DC: 12 HP: 80

He leaps and bounds off a barrel and lands behind the squad of soldiers to
take them off guard. He smashes one of the soldiers in the back with his
thickly gloved fist!

Rufus embarrassingly falls flat on his face on the stone floor. He leaps to his face quickly. I meant to do that! You fell for my trap!"

Seems you all are a bit more lithe than I gave you credit for! HA!"
He studies the remaining soldiers movements carefully
Dice Pool -> D20+Careful(D4)+Research(D4)
Result -> 20; Success Challenge HP: 19/80
HA HA, I've found your weakness! It was my fist the whole time! So I'll

ground in a heap of stones defeated!
End of Challenge: Rufus gains +2 Marrow and finds an Item!

Rufus stumbles over a pouch of herbs that for some reason lays amongst the rubble of the soldiers. Seems you all were fans of the herb huh? Well, I'll be taking these off your hands. I'm sure I can sell these off for a pretty penny back in town!" With that Rufus charges on bravely deeper into the supposedly frustrating forest. Quickly he is beset by more enemies...
Fortress of Extreme Frustration: Challenge 2
Challenge 2: A clockwork serpent emerges out of a hole in the
ceiling as Rufus continues deeper into the fortress. It sparks with
electricity and dares to challenge Rufus' superior skill!
DC: 16 HP: 60
Rufus thinks quickly, charging forward with his longsword held high.
"Lets see if you can shock me with my handy lightning rod! HA!"
With a quick summersault, Rufus leaps at the snake to smash it with his
shoulder.
Dice Pool ->
D20+Daring(D8)+Parkour(D8)+Longsword(D6)
Result -> 11; Failure 3/5 bones
Rufus leaps at the snake, but as soon as he makes contact, he realizes his mistake. The snake was completely electric! As soon as his shoulder made contact, the electricity coursed through his skeletal body!
Being shocked by the snake really woke up Rufus. He eyes the creature and
realizes the electricity seems to be coming from the snakes emerald eyes. He
quickly leaps forward, using his thick gloves as insulation to climb the
creatures back and attempt to pry out its eye!
Dice Pool -> D20+Daring(D8)+Parkour(D8)+Gloves(D6)
Result -> 15; Success Challenge HP: 45/60
Rufus rips the first emerald eye out of the mechanical snake. Hanging on for
dear life as the snake writhes and bucks underneath him, he smashes the
creature's head with his gloved fist!
Dice Pool -> D20+Daring(D8)+Fighting(D4)+Gloves(D6)
Result -> 24; Success Challenge 21/60

D20+Daring(D8)+Parkour(D8)+Longsword(D6)
Result -> 17; Success Challenge 4/60
With a final heroic charge and a leap, Rufus brandishes his gloved fist of
smashing and beating! The clockwork gears of the snake were grinding and
hissing as the snake barely could keep itself up. Certainly this would be
it!
Dice Pool -> D20+Daring(D8)+Parkour(D8)+Gloves(D6)
Result -> 18; Success The clockwork snake falls to Rufus!
End of Challenge: Rufus gains +2 Marrow and finds an Item!
Item roll -> 31; Modeling Clay
After rummaging around the room, Rufus finds a lump of modeling clay. "They must be using this clay to make models of these clockwork abominations. Can't let them do that anymore. I'll be taking this with me!" And thus, with his newly acquired clay and herbs, Rufus continues deeper into the Fortress of Extreme Frustration!
Fortress of Extreme Frustration: Challenge 3
Challenge 3: Rufus sees a large chest sitting in the middle
of the room. Thinking he's found a bout of luck, Rufus quickly sets about
trying to open it up only to find that the chest is a Mimic! The animated
chest comes alive and tries to bite down on Rufus's bony arm!
DC: 14 HP: 60
Before the mimic can bite off his arm, Rufus tries to leap over the chest,
slamming his gloved fist down on the lid of the mimic to slam it down on the
mimics slathering tongue!

Result -> 24; Success The mimic is defeated!
End of Challenge: Rufus gains +2 Marrow and finds 3 Items
within the mimics remains!
Item roll -> 64; Pocket sand 90; Hatchet 44; Reinforced
club
With the splinters of the mimic splayed out underneath him, Rufus stands to his bony skeletal feet. He spots some things of interest that spill out of the innards of the busted mimic. "Ah, such a wonderful windfall of luck! Pocket sand? Certainly will be useful. And a hatchet and a club!? With my longsword I've acquired the holy trinity of weapons! Wonderful day, wonderful day!" And with that, he charges forward to hopefully find the overlord of this frustrating fortress soon!
Fortress of Extreme Frustration: Challenge 4
In the next room over, Rufus discovers a magical portal! "Ah, this must be back to Midland. I might as well take a quick break. I'm sure that silly Frost-Taker is in the next room. He doesn't know what's coming!"
With that Rufus takes a jaunt through the portal and back to town! While there he does the following things:
- Sell items: Rufus will sell his jar of oil, modeling clay, hatchet, and herbs to receive 1 additional marrow. He has a total of 9 Marrow
- Level up: Rufus will level up twice! He spends 5 marrow to increase his total bones. He spends 4 marrow to increase his fighting skill from a D4 to D6!
- Rest: Reset his bones to 6/6
Returning through the portal, Rufus finds himself back in the fortress. He quickly advances through to a large chamber, where a figure in swirling heavy robes stands waiting. "It seems you've finally found me Rufus. But alas, I will end you! I will grind your bones to dust!" Frost-Taker stands ready to challenge Rufus! Rufus obviously is confused that this guy knows his name... But he charges forward into the fight!
Fortress of Extreme Frustration: Frost-Taker the Chaos Sorcerer
DC: 14 HP: 100
Overlord Power: Chaos Magician -> Whenever you make a
check, you must Randomly determine which approach and skill to include in the
dice pool!
GM Note:
Well the chaos magician power is going to make this fight tough since Rufus
is mostly good at 2 things and 2 things only: Being Daring and Jumping
around like a mad man. Or mad Skeleton I suppose! For this challenge, I will
list the dice pool that I create from the random selection of approach and
skill first, then add any items that I think could be useful, before
narrating what Rufus' actions look like. Lets see how our Skeletal
swashbuckler does!
Dice Pool -> D20+Daring(D8)+Thievery(D4)+Pocket
Sand(D6)
Rufus casually approaches closer to the overlord, as he continues to monologue
in that oh so cliche way. When he is finally close enough, Rufus casually
reaches into his pocket and then quickly flings pocket sand in the overlords
eyes! "HAHA Take that you fool!" He proclaims
Result -> 18; Success Overlord HP: 82/100
Dice Pool -> D20+Clever(D4)+Research(D4)
As the overlord reels back from the sand flung into his eyes, the chaos magic
surrounding the overlord forces Rufus' hand. He backs off to study his target,
hoping to get an idea of the overlords weaknesses
Result -> 14; Success Overlord HP: 68/100
Dice Pool -> D20+Careful(D4)+Talking(D4)+Coins(D6)
With his newly acquired information, Rufus decides there might be a chance to
convince the overlord to give up.
"Say friend, you really don't want to be here right? Like, if you were....
So incentivized... You would give up and leave yes? There's no reason for us
to fight here. I can just leave this sack of coins here, and we just go our
separate ways, yeah?"
Rufus slyly hefts the sack of coins, offering it towards the overlord.
Result -> 9; Failure! 5/6 Bones
Dice Pool ->
D20+Daring(D8)+Fighting(D6)+Longsword(D6)
The overlord snarls, after finally getting the sand cleared from his eyes.
"What!?! You must be joking you fool. I will destroy you and your silly
village and grind all of your bones to dust! Good luck coming back from
that!"
Rufus shrugs his bony shoulders.
"Very well. Suit yourself. Don't say I didin't warn you!"
With that Rufus rushes back into the fray, hefting his longsword and slashing
down on the still off guard Chaos sorcerer!
Result -> 22; Success Overlord HP 46/100
Dice Pool -> D20+Daring(D8)+Talking(D8)+Coins(D6)
Rufus lands a hefty blow on the overlord. In celebration, he dangles his sack
of coins out in front of his foe.
"This all could have been yours you fool! HA! Now it will be mine
AND
I'll be taking you down once and for all!" Rufus laughs as he
swings the coin sack at the overlords face!
Result -> 18; Success Overlord HP 28/100
Dice Pool -> D20+Daring(D8)+Parkour(D6)+Gloves(D6)
With a successful smack to the face with his hefty sack, Rufus presses the
attack further. Bounding up in the air, Rufus brings a haymaker of a punch
down on the overlord with his gloved fist!
Result -> 26; Success Overlord HP 2/100
Dice Pool -> D20+Daring(D8)+Fighting(D6)+Club(D6)
The overlord staggers back, suddenly fear crosses his face.
"Wait! Wait! We can still talk, I think I might take you up on that offer
after all! Please, lets not rush this here and now!"
But Rufus ignores the desperate please. He pulls out his club and smacks the
overlord with a final heaving blow!
Result -> 23; Success -> Frost-Taker the Chaos Sorcerer
is Defeated!
End of Overlord Rewards: Rufus gains +4 Marrow and finds an
Item and an Artifact!
Item roll -> 30; Spiked Flail
Artifact roll -> 1; The Sword of Many Cuts (D8)! When this
artifact is included in a dice pool, double the result of the Fighting roll
After taking his spoils, Rufus smirks a bony mostly tooth, no cheek, cheeky little smirk. "Well that's one down. And now for your fellows! I'm on may way to save the world! HA HA!" Rufus laughs and cackles his way out of the Fortress of Extreme Frustration, feeling it must've been more frustration for his enemies than him. "A quick stop into town, and then back on the road to my next challenge!'
One overlord down and three more to go before Rufus can challenge the Great King and save the world! With a new artifact packed away and some useful items added to his arsenal, Rufus gets on to his next challenge!
