Notorious: Session 1- A Gruff Lizard Rolls into Town

Gurrak makes quick time getting to Talus. Even from the space approach, he grumbles under his breath. "Ugh, desert. Nothing on this bone dry planet except for sand and holes for bugs to scurry in and hide. I'll make quick work of this contract and get out of here ASAP" He brings his ship into approach, hoping for a settlement he might land at and start his search.

GM Note: Starting off, Gurrak has no Favor, Notoriety, or Motivation. He'll be accumulating those throughout gameplay, which will lead us towards more conflict and our final showdown with the contact!

Exploration Phase

Exploration roll -> 5; Notoriety < 3, Roll on Exploration Events Table

Exploration Event -> Table 3/Event 4; A Hostile from the Minor Faction (Mystic Order) has intercepted you

As Gurrak begins his descent towards the planet surface, a cruiser comes up along Gurrak's wing. "State your business! You're in Mystic Order territory. We do not authorize you to land here!"

Threaten -> Gurrak 3 vs Challenge die 1; Success!
+1 Notoriety
It quickly makes evasive maneuvers before a shaky

Gurrak rolls his eyes, grabbing his comms unit to reply. He clears his throat before opening comms. "YOU DUMB BASTARD, I'M HERE ON CONTRACT FROM THE MYSTIC ORDER! GET OUT OF MY WAY OR I'LL BLAST YOU OUT OF THE SKY!!" He yells into the comms unit before swerving towards the escorting ship. The mystic order ship takes quick evasive action before a shaky voice responds to Gurrak's challenge. "Ah, yes very well you are free to land. Please... Uh..." Before finishing their response, the mystic order ship peels off of Gurrak's wing and darts off towards the horizon.

Destination Phase

Destination roll -> 5; Vas Babas Spaceport controlled by the Old Empire (challenging Faction). Roll twice on Destination Events table

Destination roll 1 -> Table 1/ Event 4; Gurrak discovers a master artisan at work at their forge. Observe assets at work. Can Recruit!

Gurrak disembarks from his ship, quickly scanning around the dingy little spaceport. The scene around him is lively, though that doesn't necessarily mean that the inhabitants are living a life of luxury. A thin veneer of sand coats every surface as a wind blows through the open air spaceport and market carrying even more sand. Gurrak quickly brings his breather mask up to cover his nose and mouth before taking a closer look at the market stalls open for business. After a moment, Gurrak recognizes the sound of clanking hammer and the smell of burning fire and molten metal. Ah, forge at work! Certainly the local armaments will be suitable to aid in my contract work!" He follows the sound of the work to a stall on the far end of the large open market. Gurrak's eyes fall on a massive laser cannon that sits in disrepair in the corner. His eyes light up with glee. "Now that's a nice piece right there. Say, how 'bout you get it back in working shape. I'll give it a good test run for ya and make sure it can make you good money. Of course I'll bring it back when I'm through here" He says cockily as he catches the eye of the forge master slaving over the beginnings of a reinforced blaster barrel.

Recruit -> Gurrak 1 vs Challenge die 3; Failure

Without even a glance in Gurrak's direction, the artisan spits on the ground and wipes the sweat from his brow. "Not for sale. Not for outsiders. Best be careful Nomad. This is Old Empire territory. Don't be making no trouble unless you're willing to back it up with more than just talk." Without letting Gurrak get in another word, the artisan goes back to work, dismissing the nomad from further insistence. Gurrak huffs and grumbles, leaving the shop rather than stoop so low as to grovel for the hopes of some dusty laser cannon being of any help to him. "Miserable damned planet. I'll be out of here even faster now if all the locals are so welcoming."

Destination roll 2 -> Table 3/Event 6; Gurrak enters a bar and immediately bumps into another Nomad. This isnt the first time he's encountered this nomad.
Roll a Dice -> 4; There's bad blood and they attack immediately!

Needing to cool off a bit, Gurrak wanders into a nice and busy cantina. A nice drink. Best way to start off a contract. I'm sure I'll get a good lead in there" He grins, laughing to himself. He's so distracted by the brush-off he received from the artisan, he barely has time to recognize a familiar face. Standing at the bar, already recognizing Gurrak, is a not too friendly face.

GM Note: Lets roll up a quick rival nomad that might end up throwing a wrench in our plans here!

Rival Nomad: Silar Noon, a brute Pellucid (Crystalline)

The hulking crystalline figure of Silar Noon moves quickly to intercept Gurrak as he walks into the cantina. "You've got a lot of nerve coming in here Gurrak!" Silar yells as he reaches for his blaster! Gurrak reaches for his hammer, closing the distance to knock the blaster out of Silar's hand

Attack -> Gurrak (D6+4) 10 vs Silar (D6+2) 6; Success!
Spare -> +1 Favor; Silar is defeated

Gurrak closes in on the rival nomad, quickly smashing the gun from his hand before knocking the other hulking brute from his feet to the ground. Holding his power hammer raised over Silar's head, Gurrak lets out a belly laugh. "AHAHAHA, Oh Silar funny runnin' into you here! I say, its been how long? Since I stole that sweet bounty off your hands? My that was a mighty fine paycheck. Thanks for serving it up nice like that for me. Now, before you get any more bright ideas, you best make yourself scarce around here and stay out of my way!" Silar scrambles from the ground towards the door, yelling threats back at Gurrak as he flees. Gurrak turns back to the stunned patrons of the cantina. "Alright, drinks all around! And make sure you put it on his tab, ya hear!" There's a mighty cheer and a round of foul smelling clear alcohol is poured for all of the patrons. Gurrak shoots back the disgusting drink, not feeling refreshed or in the mood of sticking around for Silar to comeback and try to catch him unaware. He heads back to his ship and leaves the spaceport behind for now. No progress but nothing lost as he heads out over the vast Talus desert.

Exploration Phase

Exploration roll -> 2; Notoriety <6, Roll on the Exploration Events table

Exploration Event -> Table 3/ Event 3; 2 Hostile scouts from the Old Empire speed past you on their hoverbikes. They circle back looking to attack!

Gurrak set his ship down in a secluded oasis, planning to approach the nearby settlement on foot. "No reason to give the locals ideas about stealing my ride now!" As he set out, using the map supplied by his contractors, the sound of revving hoverbike engines approached him from the rear. In the blink of the eye, the two bikes sped by him, on on either of his sides. Gurrak shook his head at the two hooligans, until the bikes circled back around and headed back for him! "Ah! So it looks like I'll be getting a free ride out of this! Excellent" Gurrak pulled his rapid fire laser rifle off his back and took aim as the hoverbikes approached.

Combat!

Attack -> Gurrak (D6+1) 4 vs Scout 1 (D6+1) 3; Success! (-1 Defense for Scout 1)

Gurrak's laser catches the first scout in the shoulder, though the majority of the blast is deflected off the scouts armor. He steadies his aim as the scouts own blasters miss.

Attack -> Gurrak (D6+2) 8 vs Scout 1 (D6+1) 2; Success! Scout 1 is down!

Gurrak adjusts his aim as the hoverbikes circle around for a second pass. This time he catches the scout square in the chest. The satisfactory scorch mark on the chest of the scout blasts him off his bike as he tumbles through the desert sand. Gurrak turns his attention to the remaining scout!

Attack -> Gurrak (D6+2) 6 vs Scout 1 (D6+1) 6; Failure! (-1 Defense for Gurrak)

As the first scout is blasted from his bike, his partner takes careful aim. The shot catches Gurrak in the arm. His jumpsuit takes the brunt of the blast, but the next shot will certainly put him out of the fight. Gurrak readies to return fire, taking careful aim.

Attack -> Gurrak (D6+2) 8 vs Scout 1 (D6+1) 7; Success! (-1 Defense for Scout 2)

This time Gurrak is ready. He dodges to the side as the scout flies by on his hoverbike, spinning around and catching the scout square in the back. The scout circles around for the final pass. "Its you or me now! What are you going to do!?! HAHAHA" Gurrak yells out his challenge as he fires another round!

Attack -> Gurrak (D6+2) 5 vs Scout 1 (D6+1) 4; Success! Scout 2 is down!
Spare -> +1 Favor

As the second scout falls from his bike, Gurrak approaches the slumped bodies. He eyes the insignias on their armor and sighs... "Old Empire boys, eh? And still breathing? Good. You two can take one of these bikes back to wherever you came from with a message. Leave. Me. Alone! I've got a job to do. The sooner I'm done, the sooner you boys can get back to harassing each other. Next time somebody tries to get in my way, I won't be so nice" He lets out a devilish laugh as he grabs one of the hoverbikes, jumps on and jets away. "AND THANKS FOR THE RIDE GENTLEMEN! HAHAHA!"

Destination Phase

Destination roll -> 2; A small outpost called Modular Garrison LS-78 run by the Old Empire. Speak with a local or search.

Gurrak stumbles into the local cantina, looking for a drink to take the edge off after his little spat with the scouts. The bartender welcomes him in, glad to have a patron in the mostly empty establishment. "A stiff one please, if you don't mind" Gurrak sits, sipping his drink and thinking of his next steps, frustrated that he's not found a single lead yet. As he sits, he chats with the bartender.

Speak -> Gurrak 6 vs Challenge die 3; Success! Rest and +1 Motivation
Asset Roll -> 6; The bartender once fought in the ongoing intergalactic war.

The bartender regals him with tales from the war. Unluckily, he ended up on the losing side of one too many battles. After his unit was decimated, he decided to leave the fighting behind and settle down in this secluded little outpost. The bartender doesn't know anything about Ishaa, but he doesn't want any trouble. He gives Gurrak a drink on the house and wishes him luck. Gurrak leaves feeling refreshed after the friendly chat. He hops on his newly commandeered hoverbike and speeds off to the next point of interest.

Exploration Phase

Exploration roll -> 6; Nothing Eventful and roll a die, +1 Motivation
Roll -> 5; Navigate a dangerous terrain

Gurrak takes out to the open desert, knowing that a mystic order enclave is nearby. The vast desert is taxing to traverse but the hoverbike makes it a much easier journey. After navigating the open desert, he spots a settlement off in the distance.

Destination Phase

Destination roll -> 1; A small enclave run by the mystic order called Vas Remas Town. Search or speak with a local; +1 Favor

Gurrak dismounts and begins asking around for information on Ishaa.

Search -> 5; A local is paid to watch out for nomads, +1 Notoriety

Gurrak quickly realizes that he's got a tail as he's moving through town asking the locals for information. He ducks into an alley way quickly. The tail stumbles in carefully but doesn't realize that Gurrak has caught onto him. "Friend, it seems you're a bit shy! I thought I'd give us somewhere private to talk..." He grips the hilt of his power hammer with a vicious grin as he eyes the man. "Oh no, geez I'm sorry. I was just curious to see an outsider walking about Vas Remas! We don't get travelers often..." The man lies to Gurrak, saying something about being a mystic order initiate, though he hasn't heard anything about the missing man Gurrak is looking for. "Well friend, I thank you for the information... Now I'm heading out. If you hear anything, don't you hesitate to let me know." Gurrak leaves the man in the alley and heads back to his hoverbike. "Well that man was completely full of shit. Seems like the Mystic Order has a bit of a spy problem. This might complicate things for me..." Gurrak has much to ponder as he makes his way out, still without a lead and a direction.

Gurrak's mission stats: 3 Favor, 3 Notoriety, 2 Motivation
So far he's found no leads. The Old Empire is obviously going to cause problems for him on Talus. But next time he runs into one of them, he won't be so nice!
